Also, on 6-10 May, the PTTEP Public Relations Department organized a
youth camp, “PTTEP, Cruising Songkhla Lake with Thai Youth,” in the
Songkhla Lake Conservation Project. Participating were 30 youngsters
from Bangkok who had been selected from an essay competition on the topic
“PTTEP, Cruising Songkhla Lake,” together with 30 Songkhla youngsters
under the Songkhla Lake Conservation Project.
PTTEP’s responsibility for environmental conservation not only involves
promoting and emphasizing reforestation on land but also covers creating
awareness for protection of the marine environment. On 24-29 April 2008, the
“Thai Youth Discover the Submarine World” project was organized in
cooperation with the Marine Foundation. Under this project, 28 youngsters
were trained in a study camp on the island of Koh Tao, according to the
curriculum of the Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI)
Institute. The knowledge they gained was applied to studying the marine
environment, thus making them more aware of the need to preserve the
marine ecological system at Koh Tao. These young people made an
additional contribution by collecting litter in Koh Tao communities, as well as
returning turtles to the sea. They contributed their ideas and set up a plan
under the topic “What We Can Do for the Sea.”
