I never thought when enthusiastically attending football matches regularly in the 60s and 70s that the day would dawn when I no longer give a t0$$ about the game.
There are loads of reasons, too numerous to bore you all with, but one of the main ones is "football" (the establishment, the authorities AND TV commentators / pundits (yuk) ) being in absolute denial, with its head inserted firmly up its rear end, over the whole issue of cheating in its various forms. The fact that a special word ... SIMULATION ... exists and is widely used to describe this activity on the field is testament to the fear and denial which underpin "football's" approach to this question. The longer this goes on, the longer that "football" ducks the issue, the sooner in my view the game will ultimately implode like some out of control red giant (some astronomer type will probably tell me that red giants explode). Its self destruction will be aided and abetted by rising wages (did I hear right the other day .... Rooney on £300000 per week?). Where should a brain surgeon or oncologist figure in the scheme of things? And meanwhile, the long suffering "fan" will continue to pay his/her dues, forking out through the nose for a plastic bum numbing seat in a cloned all-lookalike sponsor-named sterile stadium, while wearing one of the several "here this season, gone next season" shirts, available from the club shop and all good retail outlets for an arm and a leg.
