Prior to beginning the IVE, each student viewed a short (5-minute) video clip of a young STEM professional who talked about the nature of the work they do (e.g., designing astronaut space suits), the difficulties they had encountered in their K-1 math and science classes, and how they were able to overcome these difficulties. Students were provided with a selection of several of these video, which varied according to the demographic attributes of the STE professionals (e.g., gender, ethnicity); students were allowed to select whichever single video they wanted to view before beginning the IVE.
