Insurance risk includes the risk of incurring higher claims costs than expected owing to the unpredictable nature of claims, especially in terms of frequency, severity and the risk of change in economic and legal conditions or behavioural patterns affecting insurance pricing and conditions of insurance or reinsurance cover. This may result in the insurer receiving too little or insufficient premium for the risks it underwrites and insufficient liquidity to pay claims, which are higher than expected.
