Compared to a similar project in Pakistan that cost just $300,000, the multi-million dollar project seemed confusing to John F. Sopko, the inspector general overseeing U.S. spending on Afghanistan reconstruction. The Defense Department apparently shut down the committee that built the project, so they "can't" answer questions regarding why so much money was spent in the first place. The apparent waste of money comes days after a billion-dollar military blimp broke free from its docking station and wreaked havoc from Maryland to Pennsylvania, eventually being shot down by government officials. The department's watchdog says the Defense Department has grown so big so fast, it has become impossible to audit its spending. The Pentagon will receive an additional $25 billion in funding for the year thanks to a new budget approved by Congress last week.
