The networking course involves many technical concepts
and terms, and the lectures and textbooks may be viewed by
students as a bit “dry”, particularly when presented without
context. One way to make the course more interesting and
relevant to students and to achieve expected learning
outcomes is to design experiential learning assignments that
allow students to actually configure a network and to see
how a network is managed to support daily business
operations in a real world organization. We have designed
and implemented a LAN configuration project and a LAN
analysis project. Student feedback indicates that they have
learned a lot from these two projects.
