It has been a 3-year journey since I had started our first series of the ASEAN COLLECTION of TRADITIONAL RECIPES. The ASEAN (Association of South-East Asian Nation, covering Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines, Laos, Cambodia, Brunei, Myanmar and Vietnam) cuisine has been the epitome of fusion cuisine since the 16th century when the first European landed on the soil of today’s Malayasian Peninsula of what was then called, the Sultanate of Malacca.
It was indeed a journey of passion and gusto as we moved from one country to another, discovering and registering the rich evolution on history and culture of each of her colors, sights, smells and flavors. We are finally rounding up our journey here in Thailand, where the thought had originally been conceived.
Thailand is a multi-racial, multi-cultural and multi-religious sovereign state and the only democratic state in ASEAN that has never been colonized by a foreign power. Her cuisine though has not been able to withstand the influence of her very charismatic neighbours.
The Northern cuisine shows very vibrant signs of her colorful neighbour, Myanmar whilst the North-eastern cuisine, very noticeable dna of Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam and the Southern cuisine, generous usage of the spices from the Malay archipelago.
Short of giving everything away, we are honored and pleased to invite you to join us on this epicurean journey to discover the incredible flavors and smells of our “AMAZING THAILAND”.
