Torquirhynchia is an exception to the rule that states brachiopods are bilaterally symmetrical.
Its shell is fairly large and has the outline of a wide triangle.
It is also ornarnenred with thick ribs, and the two valves are slightly out of line with each other.
The hinge line is non-strophic (not straight) and the commissure - the line along which the two valves meet - is jagged or zigzagged.
