Mimosine content in LSEP was 7.8 g/100 g, when analysed using
a spectrophotometric method. Different parts of the Leucaena contain
varying amounts of mimosine, 2–10% of dry leaf, 2–5% of dry
seed (Lalitha et al., 1993) and 1–1.5% of root (Soedarjo et al.,
1994). In this study, mimosine of brown seed extract powder
was 8.8 g/100 g (on a dry weight basis) when determined by high
performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) (Fig.1).
