Dear Parents and Guardians,
As we are racing through another action-packed term I thought I would take this opportunity to write to you.
Exams: Tuesday 19 – Thursday 21 May
All the children have been given help during PHSE lessons and tutorials with their revision; they have also been given advice about coping with the stresses and strains of these exams.
For Year 8, the exams mark the final stages of their academic work in Moulton and they are important for their setting in some of their Year 9 subjects. For Year 7, the exams allow us to see their progress towards the end of their first year with us.
Year 7 and 8 Play –The Monster Garden
I hope your child is keeping you informed as to their rehearsal times for the year 7 and 8 play. The schedule goes up in the House by Saturday each week and as the performance dates draw closer, the number of rehearsals will increase. Please note that there will be a rehearsal on Saturday 13 June 13.00-16.30 and technical rehearsal on Thursday 18 June 14.30-18.15. The dress rehearsal will take place on Friday 19 June 14.30-18.15 and all children must attend these. We also have another rehearsal booked for Saturday 20 June 13.00 – 15.30 to tie up any loose ends. The performances will be held on Sunday 21 June and Monday 22 at 19.15 in Great Hall. Tickets are available from our box office; http:/www.theleys.net/boxoffice. We hope to see you there. Any issues or problems, please contact Mrs Catherine Howe, Head of Performance Drama at cch@theleys.net
Moulton Disco - Thursday 21 May 18.30-21.00
This will be a fun way for all the children to relax and unwind after their exams. The cost of this will be ?5.00 which can be added to your bill or, if you prefer, send cash in with your son/daughter. Day pupils can stay for supper on that evening.
Off-timetable - Friday 22 May
All those not going on the German trip will have an Outdoor Education day based in school. Details still to be confirmed
Half term: Friday 22 May - Sunday 31 May: Children will be allowed to leave the school from 16.15 on the Friday and we aim to lock the Day House by 16.45; there will be no prep or activities. The term commences again on Monday 1 June. The children will not have access to either House after their German trip. Boarders will be able to leave a packed bag if they wish in the Languages Department.
Lenten Appeal: Thank you very much for all your help with our cake sale; we managed to raise just over ?300. Please do help your child to collect their money for the sponsored-run they participated in last term.
Friday 5 June 19.30 – 21.00
We are going to hold an un-plugged concert over at Brookside in the garden. This will be a fun informal evening and will enable the many musical pupils we have in the house to perform and entertain us all. The children can stay for supper and should bring some home clothes to change into. Please bring something to sit on. I will provide drinks.
Thursday 11 June 19.00 – 20.45 sports evening. We will all go down to Latham and play some team games, have fun and eat cake. This will allow us to say goodbye and thank you to Year 8s. Day pupils can stay for supper and should bring some suitable sports clothes into school or they can wear their Games clothes.
Prize Giving on Friday 26 June: Pupils in Years 7 to LVl will be presented with their prizes. Parents are welcome to attend this presentation. You will receive a letter if your child is to receive a prize. The Day House will be locked as soon as possible after the prize-giving; this will allow the Boarders to return to Brookside and finish off packing and get the House ready for the holidays. Boarders should stay in on Friday evening as we will have a social event to say goodbye to Year 8.
Speech Day on Saturday 27 June: The morning will consist of senior prize-giving and speeches in the marquee, followed by a drinks reception and lunch. There will be an opportunity to visit the Art and Ceramic Exhibition, Design and Technology Exhibition and the Steam Engine, all located at the Rugg Centre. Full pupil attendance is expected and the dress-code for the day is formal. There will also be a reception for Year 8 in the Day House common room. This will allow the children to say a final goodbye before they move into Year 9. This will probably take place in the morning before the speeches and I will confirm details later in the term.
As usual please do feel free to contact me about school or other matters if you have a question or concern.
Yours sincerely,
Alyson Macpherson
