In Photoshop there are very useful, but little-known, settings which enable us to get a pretty good idea, or 'proof', of how an image might look when printed, or even viewed on the web. As this utilizes the monitor to simulate a printer, or even the 'average' computer screen, it requires our monitor to be reasonably well calibrated & profiled of course! This is known as 'soft proofing', as opposed to the hard-copy printed 'proofing' used in traditional commercial printing and publishing.
