A second pathway (shown as ‘B’ in Figure 2), emerges once the learner engages with the science content.
This is considered as deep learning - “I had this burning need for more information” (Preservice Teacher 1), and
what Stirling (2010-11) calls Second-order Learning. Along this pathway, the learner mentally engages with
their prior knowledge, the new information provided in published sources, and the information interpretation
provided by group participants.
