In the present work, MPSs were synthesized by hydrothermal
treatment of two silica starting materials, MicroPS
and TEOS, which were then used as precursors of composites
of TiO2 with MPS. The composites were prepared
using two commercial TiO2 powders, P25 (with larger
crystallite and particle size) and ST-01 (with smaller
crystallite and particle size), added during the synthesis of
the MPSs. Methylene blue (MB) adsorption and its photodecomposition
by the resulting four different composites
was investigated by comparison with the pure TiO2 powders,
to elucidate the effect of the silica source on the
properties of the composites of TiO2/MPS.
