Step 2 – Mold
The mold will be constructed out of 2-3 layers of carbon fiber and resin. Each layer
will be laid on the mold, and special care will be taken so that there is a high-quality
bond between layers. The mold and plug will then be vacuumed bag, and placed in
an autoclave. Once these steps completed the mold will be removed from the plug.
Step 3 – Hulls
Each hull will be created in a similar fashion to the mold. One layer of preimpregnated
carbon fiber will be laid to fit within the surface of the mold. A
honeycomb or foam core may be placed on the first layer of carbon fiber, after which
final layer of carbon fiber will be added. The next step will consist of vacuum
bagging the hull and placing it in the autoclave to cure. Two identical hulls will be
made from the single mold.
