The tests of the catalytic activity of the extruded CaO-based catalysts
were performed in a 150 mL round bottom 3-neck glass flask
fitted with a magnetic stirrer, a reflux condenser, a sampling device,
and a thermocouple. The energy was applied to the glass flask
with a constant temperature oil bath. The accuracy of the temperature
measurements was ±0.5 C. The reflux condenser, which was
a straight condenser tube with the tap water as the cooling medium,
can cool all the volatiles and return them into the glass flask
to keep the material balance of the reaction. In each experimental
run, GL and DMC were mixed in specified amounts in the flask and
heated to the desired temperature. Then, extruded CaO-based catalyst
with specified amount was added to the mixture as catalyst
to start the reaction. The reaction took place for 2 h or 5 h with a
stirring speed of 600 rpm. After the reaction, the liquid reaction
mixture was taken out from the glass flask and sampled to analyze.
The remained formed catalyst was washed with methanol three
times and then reused in the recycle experiment.
