Noise
Equipment and engines
may produce noise
which is augmented
when they are operated
in a ship’s hold or a
warehouse. As a rule
of thumb you may be
at risk if you have to
shout to be clearly heard
by someone 2 metres
away, if your ears are still
ringing after leaving the
workplace or if there are
noises due to impacts
such as those caused by
hammering.
• Noisy areas need to be identified and a risk
assessment carried out.
• Appropriate measures must be in
place to ensure compliance with
Part 5, Chapter 1 of the Safety,
Health and Welfare at Work
(General Application) Regulations
2007, as amended.
