The junta also appointed retired General Surayud Chulanont as a caretaker prime minister. In just two days after the military coup, the PAD leaders announced the dissolution of their protest organization, because their goal of toppling the Thaksin government had been accomplished (Nation, 2006c). In the meantime, most of the TRT party’s leaders were arrested while some of them fled the country. The party was finally dissolved in May 2007 by court order as they were found guilty of breaking election law. 118 TRT executives were also banned from involvement in political activity for five years (Nation, 2007).
