The area round about a body within which its force of
gravitational attraction is perceptible (no other body being
near about it) is called its gravitational field. The strength
of this field is termed as gravitational energy. So we may
say that Gravitational energy arises because of the
gravitational force by which matter attracts other matter. If
we make a fist of each of our hands and hold them near
each other in front of us, there is a gravitational force
between them that tries to pull them together. But we don't
feel our hands trying to move together.
