Box plots showing faecal glucocorticoid metabolite (fGCM) levels in tufted capuchin monkeys during periods with and without provisioning and for individuals with different propensities to produce deceptive false alarm calls. Values on the y-axis are the residuals of a null model that included only the control variables included in the reduced model in Table 1 (i.e. all variables except caller type, experimental condition and the interaction between these two variables; see Methods). Box plots show median (white line), first and third quartiles (box), range excluding outliers (whiskers), and outliers falling more than 1.5 box lengths from the edge of the box (circles). N = 662 fGCM samples from 29 individuals.
