A variety of plant pathogenic fungi, bacteria, and a human
pathogen (C. albicans) were selected to assess the biological
activity of javanicin. The MIC was determined for
each test organism. The javanicin was either slightly active
or not active against fungi such as Pythium ultimum,
Phytophthora infestans, Botrytis cinerea, and Ceratocystis
ulmi, whereas it was active against C. albicans, Escherichia
coli, Bacillus sp., and Fusarium oxysporum at higher
MIC values ranging from 20 and 40 lg/ml.
