Out of this background, we have designed a research project to learn more about both students and
teachers’ experiences and learning when working with socio-scientific issues in science education at senior
level (aged 13-16). The project started in 2007 and will last for at least four years. Our overall research
questions are:
(1) How do students’ interests, engagements and self-efficacies develop in the work? What factors are
important?
