Jill and Megan were very excited. Almost every weekend, they had lunch together in the park two blocks away from their street. However, this weekend was special. It was the first time the girls were going to pack their own lunches and go to the park by themselves.
Just before noon on Saturday, Jill left her house and walked across the street to Megan’s house. Megan’s mother had gone to the grocery store to buy lots of lunch ingredients for the girls, and Jill and Megan got right to work filling a basket with sandwiches, potato chips, vegetables and cookies. On the way out the door, Megan grabbed a blanket, and they headed to the park.
At the park, Jill selected a large, shady tree, and Megan spread the blanket out underneath it. The girls sat down and unpacked their lunches, comparing the sandwiches they made.
Suddenly Megan let out a yelp. “Oh no!” she cried.
“What is it?” Jill asked.
“We forgot to pack something to drink!” Megan answered.
“Oh. I guess we can just go home and get something when we’re done eating,” Jill said. Then she squinted and pointed at something in the distance. “Wait, what’s that?”
The girls walked across the park to go check it out. It was a lemonade stand, and the girl sitting behind the table was Jenna, a classmate of Jill and Megan’s.
“Hey guys! Want a glass of lemonade?” Jenna asked.
“I’d love one,” Megan said, but suddenly frowned and pointed at Jenna’s sign. “But I don’t have fifty cents.”
"Neither do I," said Jill.
“That’s OK!” Jenna said. “Maybe next week you can come and sell lemonade with me!”
Jill and Megan looked at each other and grinned. “Definitely!” they replied.
