WBD and business unit performance
Supervisor ratings
One particularly important finding in the present research is that the unit level of WDB strongly
correlated with supervisor ratings of business unit staff performance. Interestingly, this finding is
consistent with those reported in the two recent studies that investigated the relationship between
WDB and supervisor ratings of job performance at the individual level. Rotundo and Sackett
(2002) found, in their policy-capturing study, that supervisors gave heavier weights on either task
performance or WDB than on OCB in determining overall job performance of individuals. In addition,
Mount, Johnson, Ilies, and Barrick (2002) found that self-reports of WDB are significantly correlated
with supervisor ratings of job performance. The present study extends these findings to the business
unit level.
