The optimized conditions for biomass production were employed
in the fed-batch fermentation. The oil content in the yeast
was monitored during the fermentation at regular intervals.
In a typical fed-batch process, a total of 55 g L1 glycerol was
fed over a period of 110 h (Fig. 4) resulting in an OD of 136 with
a DCW of 35.7 g L1 and oil yield of 18.6% (on dry cell weight basis).
The biomass and total lipid yield with respect to glycerol consumed
(YX/S and YTL/S) were 0.65 and 0.12 respectively.
