HUMANITARIAN SITUATION
Away from all, thousand of villages are denied access to health care or other assistance. The absence of drinking water, medical centers, and schools lead to utter precariousness.
Despite its small size, Laos still holds the dubious distinction of being the most bombed country in the world. A total of 1.9 million metric ton of bombs was dropped during the Vietnam War, leaving a deadly legacy of unexploded ordnance.
This sanguinary episode has left open wounds and is still at the origin of numerous accidents. A lot of Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) keep mutilating and/or killing men, women, and children. The hazardous area covers 37% of the country (87’000 sq. km).
