How can the ARIK-A be used in practice?
The basic purpose of the ARIK-A is to provide information about adult educators' reading
instruction knowledge, globally (RIKC), within domains of reading, Basic Reading(Alphabetics and Fluency) and Advanced Reading (Vocabulary and Comprehension), and
Assessment. Because it has two equivalent forms, the ARIK-A can be used to assess growth
in reading instructional knowledge as a function of formal course work, professional
development, or informal self-study. Alternate forms of ARIK-A can be used to assess
knowledge gained in a pre–post-test format. It can be used to yield both mastery information
(i.e., percent correct per total test and/or by area) and normative information (i.e., comparison
of examinee's performance to peers in the normative sample). Once administered, raw
scores can be obtained for each scale by summing the number of items answered correctly;
the same procedure is used for the two composites and the total score. Raw scores then can
be translated to yield both mastery and normative information.
