The oxidation state of Pb as +2 is in agreement with the other studies concerning the analyte species trapped on quartz , regarding the standard reduction potentials in aqueous medium. The oxidation state of Au was found to be (0); this metal is well-known for its resistance against oxidation, the standard potential for the reduction of Au3+ to metallic gold is +1.43 V. On the other hand, the standard potentials for the reduction of BiO+ to Bi(s) and Mn2+ to Mn(s) are +0.32 V and −1.029 V, respectively; the oxidation states of these metals on quartz were found to be +3 and +2, respectively. Lead is also relatively easily oxidized; the standard potential for the reduction of Pb2+ to Pb(s) is −0.126 V, demonstrating properties similar to those of Bi and Mn.
