Plate19-Boneshaker bicycle.1868.
this is etanother example of the boneshake, again differing slightly in some of the minor points. This machine, for example, has adjustable pedals that can be moved up and down the bar to suit the length of the leg of the rider. This example is also equipped with foot-rests which can be seen at the very end of the frame in front of the handlebars. When traveling at speed, which was usually downhill. the rider raised his feet from the fast revelving pedals and placed them on the foot-rests. When normal speed was resumed which one hopes was possible with the rather ineffectual brake, the feet were returned to the pedals.
