4.2.4. Activated carbon
Three different parameters were evaluated for the cost associated with the use of activated carbon: (1) the amount of H2S
produced in the anaerobic digestion process, (2) the adsorption capacity of the carbon, and (3) the price of the carbon. Varying all three parameters had relatively small effects on the overall profitability criteria for dairy farms. It is possible that more expensive activated carbon would have a higher adsorption capacity, and the less expensive activated carbon would have a lower adsorption capacity, thus negating the effects of both the price and the adsorption capacity.
