WisakhaBuja Day (Lord Buddha Day): This day commemorates the birth, enlightment and death of the founder of Buddhism, the Lord Buddha. The ceremony are held on the full moon in the sixth lunar month which usually fall in May. As the state religion, Buddhism has the significance influence on the life of Thai people. WisakhaBuja Day is observed widely and most impressively by Thai Buddhists. The occasion is observed by yellow Buddhist flags flown in almost every house, religious activities such as merit-making and sermons held in all temples. In the evening or late afternoon, the “WianTian”, candle or torch-lit procession, is held. Monks and laymen with lit candle, three joss-sticks and flowers in their hands, walk silently making three clockwise circles around the main temple hall or pagoda to pay homage to the Lord Buddha, his teaching and his disciples. The tree marvelous incident, the birth, the enlightenment and the death of Lord Buddha took place in extraordinary coincidence on this sacred day. The Buddhists extend the spirit of loving and kindness to all people, wishing them peace and prosperity. On this occasion, the Buddhism Promotion Week provides the opportunity for Buddhists to participate in religious ceremonies. These ceremonies are also held in Bangkok at SanamLuang and in other provinces. The event features exhibitions of the history of the Load Buddha, his teachings, Buddhist lectures and a sermon by senior monks.
