This, coupled with the subjectivity of people’s interpretations of the outcomes
produced by their actions, suggests that understanding the efficacy beliefs of
first- and second-year engineering students as a whole requires the inclusion of
large numbers of students in the study. Such a requirement often leads a study
toward the use of quantitative methods, with which information can be collected
from a large number of people relatively inexpensively.
