The Challenge of Implementing
Authentic Learning
Promotion of authentic learning is
not always easy. Educators are faced with
the challenge and the responsibility of
successfully implementing authentic
learning activities. As Roelof and Terwel
(1997) remind us, authentic pedagogy can
be achieved. However, there are certain
requirements that should be put into place:
construction of knowledge in a complete
task environment, connection to the
student’s personal world, attention to the
value of learning situations beyond the
school, and cooperation and communication
(Roelof & Terwel, 1997).
