IR spectroscopic measurements of seaweed extracts,
along with a standard, dextran sulfate (DS), were obtained
using a Perkin-Elmer FT-IR instrument. One part of the extract
was mixed with ninety-nine parts of dried potassium
bromide (KBr) separately, and then compressed to prepare a
salt disc of 3 mm diameter. These discs were subjected to
IR-spectrophotometry. The absorption was read between 400
and 4 000 cm−1.
