There are several educational experts that mention the purposes in listening as follow.
Prapasri Srihaampai. (1981 : 316) describes the purposes of listening as people listen for comprehending data into knowledge, creating imagination, answering questions and observing pronunciation.
Tassanee Suppametee. (1984 : 12) says the purpose of listening is ability of using both in listening and broadcasting a feeling successfully and effectively.
Narawan Poonpipat (1986 : 78-79) states that there are five goals for listening. First, listen to understand and capture an important key then transfer to others. Second, listen to capture the main and supporting details and comply into a summary. Third, listen to analyze and identify what is a reason, fact or it is only a comment. Forth, listen to interpret the message that speaker wants to tell to his audience. Finally, listen to evaluate the message which is listened that it is good or bad and why or why not.
Suwanna Kraingkaipet (1987 : 183) divides the purpose of listening into five purposes as for comprehending, capturing the detail meticulously, finding any reasons to contradict the message, appreciating and creating an imagination.
From the text above, it can be conclude that the purpose of listening is for receiving, interpreting, analyzing and evaluating the message from the sender. It also helps the learners to create the imagination and predict what the meaning of the message is. In addition, it is beneficial for developing the other abilities effectively from listening.
