Assuming that a careful diagnosis indicates the need for a stress management program, the challenge is selecting one from the many available. Programs such as time management or physical exercise could be set up so that employees can help themselves cope, or the organization could alter the conditions that are associated with stress. The latter approach requires a diagnosis of what is happening, where, and to whom be before a decision is made on how to proceed. Because so many possible sources of stress exist, and because not all people react the same way to them, implementing individual stress management strategies may be more efficient. However, if many people are suffering similar stress symptoms in a specific part of the organization, an organizational strategy is more appropriate.
