Childhood obesity has reached epidemic and pandemic
proportions. It is rare to open a journal and not
see an article discussing the current trends and issues
relative to this public health problem. Associated with
numerous comorbid conditions, childhood obesity is
also recognized as a risk factor for multiple chronic conditions
and premature mortality in adult life (Budd &
Hayman, 2008).Numerous genetic, social, and environmental
factors related to childhood obesity in children
have been identified. Unknown causes of obesity confound
the problem, making it difficult to isolate the true origin of this health crisis. This problem has increased
along the developmental spectrum of children and
adolescents.
