A recent trend has been towards what is being called ‘cleantech’, or clean technology, considered by many to be the largest economic opportunity of the 21st century. The venture capital industry invested $8.4 billion in cleantech in 2008. According to Forum for the Future, ‘clean technologies are technologies- including products, services and processes-that reduce or eliminate the environmental impact of currently available technology through increasing resource efficiency, improving performance and reducing waste.’ A lot of the work we hear about is in renewable energies such as solar, wind and alternative fuels, as well as in agriculture, infrastructure, recycling, efficiency, transportation and storage.
