Evidence that the antibodies detected by these beads are related to rejection is shown by the frequency of antibodies detected after rejection of a kidney transplant.
By use of the flow bead test among patients waiting for a first kidney transplant, 35% had class I antibodies and 32% had class II antibodies.
Among those waiting for regrafts, 60% had class I antibodies and 62% had class II antibodies .
The frequency of sera that had antibodies to class I or class II almost doubled from those waiting for a first transplant to those waiting for a second transplant.
This suggests that both class I and class II antibodies detected were associated with rejection of the transplants.
