Some individuals may be
interested in getting screened but lack the time.
Respondents mentioned that African immigrants
often work a lot and sometimes outside of regular
business hours. This barrier is highlighted in
these comments: “Just like any other immigrant
group, people [work] 2 or 3 jobs to send money
back home and they don’t [have] time to go to the
doctor – this has a lot to do why people aren’t getting
tested or go to the doctor in general” (screened
woman). “And that’s the problem for you know a
lot of African people because they don’t have the
time to go do a lot of things, and that’s why they
don’t think about doing tests or going to the hospital”
(unscreened man).
