9.5.6. If a door remains open when lighting is needed, use door switches.
Janitor closets, linen rooms, small stockrooms, and similar spaces are entered by a single door that is kept open while the room is in use. In such spaces, lighting can be controlled efficiently by a door switch. The switch mounts easily on the door jamb and is connected into the fixture wiring. The switch is inexpensive. The main cost is routing the wiring from the switch to the rest of the circuit.
Unless you are sure that the door is kept closed whenever the space is vacated, install a placard that says,“The lights in this room turn off automatically when the door is closed. Please keep the door closed when you are not in the room.”
