More minimalist masterstrokes from Tokyo’s loather of embellishment; Oki Sato. The Nendo man is famed for his stripped back approach and, at this new solo show at the government sponsored National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute, even the rooms are stripped back into sketch form. Both their ‘thin black lines‘ and ‘dancing squares’ collections are uniquely presented with typical Nendo panache; there’s pleasing echoes of New Delhi’s Smoke House Deli and Richard Woods’ famous illustrative wood panelling in the whimsically sketched interiors. Proving once again that he’s the monochrome overlord of wry and effortless simplicity, this Taiwan exhibition is another fine example of why Oki Sato is a designer at the top of his game…
