Among the policy associations that related to political science that were founded during the 1970s and 1980s are the Policy Studies Organization and the Association for Public Policy Analysis and Management. More than 400 policy journals are published, most of them started since 1950. There are some 5,500 foundations that support the social sciences and humanities, 70 percent of which were established after 1950. The Ford foundation was instrumental in establishing new university policy programs in the 1970s, and today most research universities have public policy institutes or degree programs.
