Channels are dynamic and experience both erosion and deposition.
We expected to see significant variability in erosion from measurement
period to measurement period given the discrete nature of
precipitation events. Unexpectedly, the variability between pins
within a morphological group was also high; some channel pins experienced
deposition while others experienced erosion during the
same measurement period. This suggests that slugs of sediment are
entrained in the channel areas and moved from source to sink as
bed load or suspended load in the channel runoff following precipitation
as described by Keay-Bright and Boardman
