The concentrate prepared should not be contaminated with red cells.
The degree of reddish tinge of the concentrate indicates red cell
contamination. The units contaminated with red cells should be used
as group specific.
1% of all platelet concentrates prepared should undergo tests for
bacterial detection by a validated method as part of routine quality
control
