One sunny morning, a clever young deer was sitting in the forest watching bees flying in and out of their big nest hanging from a tree. He was so happy in the warm sun that he did not know a tiger was walking towards him very quietly.
"I'm going to eat you," said the tiger, seizing the deer. The deer was very clever, so he thought of the trick. "Of course, you can eat me, but would you let me do one thing first? I have to beat th Queen's drum." He pointed to the bees' nest. "It is a very important job I have to do once a year."
"Why does the Queen ask you to beat the drum for her?" The tiger asked. He was angry. "I am better than you. You are only a deer, but i am a tiger. I should beat the drum. I will beat the drum today."
He let go of the deer because he had stopped thinking about eating. The deer ran away and the tiger climbed the tree. He hit the bees' nest with a tree branch and all the bees flew out. They attacked the tiger, and he ran away. The wise deer had tricked the tiger.
