However, further
research is needed in broader areas due to the substantial
differences in fauna among different water body types, particularly
in the Taihu Basin, a densely populated and developed region in
eastern China, which has been heavily impacted by human
activities. The water and habitat quality in the basin are being
degraded by industrial activities, domestic sewage, agriculture and
other forms of development (Guo, 2007; Qin et al., 2007, 2010).
