Frozen red cells
The expiry date for glycerolized (low or high) frozen red cells is 10 years
and should be stored between -800 and -1960C.
Washed and deglycerolised red blood cells
Washed red blood cells and deglycerolized red blood cells should be
stored at 40C + 20C and should be transfused as soon as possible and
within 24 hours after processing.
Leucocytes depleted red blood cells
Leucocyte-poor red blood cells should be stored at 4 0C + 20C. It should
have the same expiry date as whole blood from which it has been
prepared, if closed system is used. In case of open system, the expiry
will be within 24 hours.
