The laboring woman who enters the hospital undergoes some rather sudden changes. She loses her body image,mobility, and familiar environment. Her body boundary intactness is also challenged by the unrelenting inner stimuli of the process of labor. These losses, changes, and inner powers tend to disrupt ego structures, and to place the laboring woman in a vulnerable position (23). Tzeng and Chao reported that the subjective experience of the Taiwanese primipara mothers during the course of labor and , sense of mismatch, coming to a crossroad of giving up or continuing, sense of loss of control, trying to hold onto self, engaging in reequipping self, sense of accomplishment, and sense of relief (24).
