Suddenly a carriage stopped near to them. Mrs Walker was sitting in the carriage and she waved her hand at Winterbourne. She wanted him to go and talk to her. When Daisy saw Mrs Walker, she nodded her head and smiled. Then she walked on with Giovanelli.
Winterbourne hurried over to the carriage. Mrs Walker had a worried expression on her face.
"This is dreadful," she said to Winterbourne. "That girl must not do this. She must not walk here with you two men. It is not correct behavior. Several people have seen hr. They are shocked."
"I don't think that you should make a fuss about it," said Winterbourne.
"She's ruining her reputation!" cried Mrs Walker. "You must not let this happen."
"She's very charming and innocent," said Winterbourne.
