The Middle East (which includes 12 producing countries) produced about 30% of the total, about 40% of which was produced by Saudi Arabia. Ten countries (out of a total of 96) produced 60% of total world production. The top five, which produced 42% of the world total are: Saudi Arabia, United States, Russia, China, and Iran. The Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), produced about 44% of the world total.
